A 23-year-old youth who had attempted to rob a house has been killed after being assaulted with a sharp object, the Police said.
The victim, along with two other men, had broken into a house in the Yagodamulla area in Kotugoda, Minuwangoda early last morning.
Investigations have revealed that the owner of the house had left for business activities early that morning, while his wife and four daughters remained at the house.
As the suspects had broken into the house, a neighbour who is a close associate of the family, had assisted them by assaulting the suspects with a sharp object, during which one suspect had died.
The Police said the other two suspects had fled the area following the incident and that investigations were underway to apprehend them.
The deceased has been identified as a 23-year-old resident of the Kotugoda area in Minuwangoda. (NewsWire)
