Parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne has called for the abolition of the Executive Presidency before the Presidential polls.
Addressing an event, MP Senaratne said that a time frame should not be placed if someone is keen to abolish the executive presidency.
“If anyone proposes to immediately abolish the executive presidency, they will receive my support. I am even ready to leave Parliament,” he said.
The former minister questioned why a presidential election must be held spending large sums of money when the executive presidency can be abolished.
Stating that he does not believe that the government will abolish the executive presidency, MP Senaratne said it is a matter that should be discussed in Parliament and should be carried out soon. (NewsWire)
