Former President Maithripala Sirisena met with the Deputy Secretary of the US Department of State, Afreen Akhter in Washington DC on Wednesday (Feb 14).
Issuing a statement, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Leader said the discussion focused on strengthening bilateral relations.
Maithripala Sirisena further said that intense discussions were also held on the current political situation in Sri Lanka, as well as the SLFP-led alliance.
“Several measures discussed during the meeting are to be implemented within the next few months,” he said.
The former President also expressed his appreciation for the generous support given by the United States of America to Sri Lanka.
MP Sirisena was accompanied by SLFP Asst. Secretary General Sajin Vass Gunawardena and SLFP member Dr. Chamila Liyanage during the discussion. (NewsWire)
