The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is expected to submit a proposal tomorrow to reduce the electricity tariffs that were increased in October last year, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchcna Wijesekera informed Parliament today.
Addressing the Chamber, Minister Wijesekera said that the proposal is being prepared to be submitted to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) on Thursday (Feb 22).
He further said the CEB is looking to provide maximum concession by completely suspending the increase in electricity tariffs that were proposed in October 2023.
The minister said, accordingly, the CEB is working to provide concession or at least do away with the following revisions that were proposed last year;
- Domestic and religious places of worship – 18%
- Industries and hotels – 12%
- Government institutions – 24% (NewsWire)
