Sri Lanka Police has issued a clarification over various media reports circulating related to Uva Province Governor A.J.M. Muzammil’s son, who is wanted over an incident of assault.
Issuing a statement, the Police said the suspect nor his father have not informed the Police of his surrender.
The Wellawatte Police had received a complaint about the Governor’s son allegedly assaulting a woman at an apartment complex in the area, while the woman involved in the incident has been hospitalised.
The Police said during attempts to arrest the suspect, he had misled the Police by placing his vehicle and mobile phone at a place in the Southern Province.
The Police has seized the vehicle and the mobile phone, while the suspect is evading arrest and is currently in hiding.
Stating that the suspect nor his father had not informed the Wellawatte Police of his surrender, the Police also denied reports claiming that they had accepted the suspect’s request to surrender.
The Police further said that the suspect was still in hiding and investigations are ongoing to apprehend him. (NewsWire)
