The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched a probe into the vehicle used to transport former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella to courts recently, it was reported.
Keheliya Rambukwella is in remand custody over the case related to the illegal importation of substandard Immunoglobulin vaccines during his tenure as Health Minister.
According to Lankadeepa newspaper, as per a complaint filed with the CID, the van used to transport Rambukwella had been gifted to the Prisons Department by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), specifically to transport children of prisoners.
The complainant further states that UNICEF had gifted the vehicle with the condition that the van should never be used to transport inmates and suspects, and should only be used for children.
The complainant also alleged that the Commissioner General of Prisons had violated the condition by utilising the vehicle for the transportation of former minister Keheliya Rambukwella.
Based on the allegations, the CID has launched an investigation into the matter. (NewsWire)
