A Police Sergeant has been sentenced to four years imprisonment for accepting a bribe of Rs. 500, it was reported.
According to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, the Police Officer was sentenced by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
The Police Officer is reported to have accepted a bribe of Rs. 500 from a three-wheeler driver to avoid filing legal action related to a traffic offence.
An investigation was launched based on a notification from the Traffic DIG after which a case had been filed with four charges.
Upon the Police Sergeant being found guilty of all four charges, he was sentenced to four years, while the court also imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000, and ordered for the bribe of Rs. 500 to be recovered as a penalty. (NewsWire)
