Applications are being called for the posts of “Parliamentary Budget Officer” and “Deputy Parliamentary Budget Officer” for the Parliamentary Budget Office of Sri Lanka.
According to the vacancies announced on the Parliament’s official website, the Parliamentary Budget Office was established to assist the legislature in its performance of public finance responsibilities under the Constitution.
“The Parliamentary Budget Office shall be independent, non-partisan, and exclusive of and protected from any political influence. It shall further be appropriately staffed with well-qualified economists, and be tasked with producing high-quality analysis and reports,” the statement read.
The designations are for a contract period of five years, while the minimum initial gross monthly remuneration together with all other allowances will be approximately Rs. 665,000 for the post of Parliamentary Budget Officer and Rs. Rs. 560,000 for the post of Deputy Parliamentary Budget Officer.
Applications should be sent under registered cover to reach the “Secretary-General of Parliament, Parliament of Sri Lanka, Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte” on or before 6th May 2024, indicating the post applied for on the top left corner of the envelope.
Commenting on the vacancies, Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) Dr. Harsha de Silva said the Parliamentary Budget Officer is tasked with setting up an office with over 20 professionals to assess finance legislation proposed by the Sri Lanka treasury independently.
Taking to ‘X’, he further said that the PBO will work independently and coordinate via the COPF Committee and be accountable to Parliament, while the PBO will also analyse every public finance document and brief MPs on costs and benefits, etc.
