The deadline for the acceptance of applications for the Awurudu Kumara/ Kumariya (Open) competition of the “Wasath Siriya 2023” celebration for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year has been extended until April 23, 2024.
According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), the event, organized by the Welfare Society of the Presidential Secretariat along with other ministries, will be held on Saturday (Apr 27) in Colombo.
The contestants must submit a recent colour photograph taken within the last three months along with their name, age, height, address and phone number. All applicants must be unmarried individuals aged between 18 and 30 years. Completed applications should be submitted via WhatsApp at 077-1557146 before 3.00 p.m. on 23rd April 2024.
The “Wasath Siriya” Awurudu Kumara/ Awurudu Kumariya (Open) competition offers valuable prizes, including cash rewards of Rs.100, 000 for first place, Rs.75, 000 for second place, and Rs. 50, 000 for third place. Additionally, the first 12 winners will also receive valuable prizes and certificates. The organizing committee holds the final decision regarding competition conditions. The competitions have been divided into three sections, namely State Section, Open Section, and Guest Section, and feature a total of 17 competitions for both men and women. These competitions are open to the staff members of ministries and government institutions, their family members, friends, and children. In public sector competitions, it is mandatory to present the identity card issued by the relevant government institution.
Additionally, there will be an inclusive segment open to all Sri Lankans, featuring 16 competitive activities. These include the “Pura Sariya” Standard Cycle Race, Marathon Race, Sliding Tree, Tug of War, Wrestling, Candle Lighting, Bursting the Balloons, Placing the Eye on the Elephant, Picking Toffees, Best Smile, and Awurudu Kumara/ Awurudu Kumariya contests, catering to participants of all ages and interests.
Also, there is a guest section for foreigners, embassies, foreign institutions, and nearby hotels, consisting of 10 events where foreigners can participate. These include Placing the Eye on the Elephant, Wasana Muttiya Bindeema, Needle Threading, Sagayata kiri kaweema, Bursting the Balloons, lime and spoon race, musical chairs and musical hats competitions, bun eating contest, and drinking milk with a soother.
The festivities will continue with the “Wasath Siriya- Miazi musical concert”, which will commence at 7:00 pm at the venue with the participation of renowned singers. (Newswire)
