Sri Lanka Baseball has expressed its condolences over the demise of Palestine baseball captain, Ashraf Awwad Ibrahim Mourad, who is reported to have tragically passed away in Gaza.
In a statement, Sri Lanka Baseball said its CEO Theekshana Gammanpila and Chairman of the Selection Committee Subash Gunasinghe expressed their condolences during a meeting with the Ambassador of the Palestine Embassy in Sri Lanka, Zuhair M H Darzaid.
The Sri Lanka Baseball officials called on the Palestinian Ambassador at the Embassy of Palestine in Sri Lanka this week (Apr 17).
During the meeting, Ambassador Zuhair M H Darzaid shared insights into the situation in Palestine and appreciated Sri Lanka Baseball’s concern for their fellow player.
A portrait of the late Ashraf Awwad Ibrahim Mourad was also handed over to Sri Lanka Baseball as a tribute.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, loved ones, and the Palestine Baseball Association. May Captain Murad’s legacy in the sport and his team endure forever,” Sri Lanka Baseball said in its statement.
