A 39-year-old Army Soldier was reported dead and 09 other officers were injured in a road accident near the Vasanthanagar junction in Mankulam in the Northern Province.
The Police said a lorry travelling from Mankulam to Kilinochchi had collided with a pickup truck transporting a group of Army personnel early this morning.
One Army soldier travelling in the back of the truck had been thrown out and onto the lorry that was travelling behind, and had succumbed to injuries while being admitted to the Killinochchi Hospital.
The other 09 Army personnel who had also sustained injuries in the accident are receiving treatment at the Kilinochchi Hospital.
The deceased Army soldier has been identified as a resident of Galgamuwa and an officer on duty at the Murrukkandy Camp.
The driver of the lorry has been arrested in connection to the accident, while the Mankulam Police is conducting investigations into the incident. (Newswire/ Pic- Accident1st)
