A child trafficking racket has been thwarted after two women were arrested at the Katunayake Airport for having attempted to take a 17-year-old boy to England.
According to media reports, the women were arrested for attempting to take the boy overseas by preparing false documents based on the information shared by a Sri Lankan woman and her son currently residing in England.
A woman from Mullaitivu had arrived at the Katunayake Airport with the teenage boy, to depart for London via SriLankan Airlines flight UL-503.
As the woman had provided her documents for airline clearance, the airline employees had informed the Immigration and Emigration officials at the airport on suspicion of the documents.
Technical inspections carried out on the documents confirmed that they had been forged.
Upon being inquired, the teenage boy had divulged all details related to the racket and had also revealed that his biological mother was waiting outside the departure lounge. (Newswire)
