The Ministry of Sports has taken measures to depoliticise sport in Sri Lanka, with Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs Harin Fernando signing a landmark Regulation, identified as Regulation No. 1 of 2024.
Signed today (May 03), the regulation encompasses the requisites of the 73 National Sports Associations registered under the Director General of Sports in keeping with the Sports Law Act No.25 of 1973.
The new regulation also empowers the Director General of Sports to take action when necessary.
Sports Minister Harin Fernando has also introduced the services of an Ombudsman.
The Ombudsman is tasked with listening to all grievances of all sports stakeholders and guiding them in the best interests of the country’s sports. (Newswire)
