Nearly 30 million red bills were issued between 2022 and 2024 due to delayed payments of electricity bills, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wiejesekera said.
He further said that the electricity connections of over 1.3 million consumers were disconnected due to the failure to settle electricity bills on time.
Stating that the accounts of over 126,000 consumers had been closed, the minister said that nearly 1.9 million new electricity connections had been obtained.
Minister Wijesekera added that currently there are over 7.2 million electricity consumers in Sri Lanka.
The Minister of Power and Energy provided the details on Tuesday while responding to a question raised in Parliament by SLPP MP Gevindu Kumaratunga. (Newswire)
