Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has proposed a postponement of the government’s privatization drive until after the upcoming Presidential election.

In a statement, he emphasized the interim nature of the current government and suggested that decisions regarding state-owned assets should be left to the incoming administration, aligning with the mandate received from the electorate. This suggestion comes amidst growing discontent over the rapid divestment of state-owned assets.

“I wish to propose that all moves to sell off state owned assets or enterprises be postponed until a new government is formed after the next Presidential election. The new government will then be able to deal with state owned properties and enterprises in accordance with the mandate they obtain at the election” Former President said in a statement. (NewsWire)
