Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga claimed to have been an agent for the foreign intelligence and domestic security agency of the Soviet Union, the KGB.

Weeratunga said that he is privy to information such as when the Parliament of Sri Lanka will be dissolved, due to his links with the KGB.

The former ambassador made this revelation during an interview with senior journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrama when asked if Russian operatives decided on the domestic affairs of Sri Lanka.

“As a person who was linked with the Russian KGB, I get to know these things very quickly,” he said.

Asked if he is a KGB spy, Weeratunga said he was at one time an agent of the Soviet spy service.

The KGB was the primary security and intelligence agency for the Soviet Union from 1954 until the nation collapsed in 1991. (Newswire)
