The death toll from the tragic accident at the ‘Foxhill SuperCross 2024’ event in April has increased to eight (08), with the demise of a 16-year-old female victim.
The Police Media Unit confirmed to Newswire that the girl had died while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Badulla General Hospital last night.
The deceased has been identified as a 16-year-old schoolgirl and a resident of Diyathalawa.
Initially, seven individuals were killed and 23 others were injured after a car hurtled into spectators at the ‘Fox Hill Super Cross 2024’ event held in Diyathalawa in April.
The drivers of two cars were arrested following the incident but were later released on bail.
A seven-member investigation panel, led by a Major General, was also appointed to uncover the circumstances surrounding the accident and to prevent future such incidents.
Sri Lanka’s Sports Ministry also provided compensation to the injured and the families of victims of the accident.
The Sports Ministry provided a sum of Rs. 1 million each to the families of those who were killed in the tragic accident, while a sum of Rs. 250,000 each is to be provided as compensation to those who were injured. (Newswire)
