Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, addressing Parliament, extended his condolences to the government and people of Iran on the passing of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
“I propose we unanimously express our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Acting President Mohammad Mokhber, Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani, and the families of all those who unfortunately perished in this crash,” Premadasa said.
The Opposition Leader highlighted the Iranian Republic’s generosity towards the Sri Lankan people through the implementation of the Uma Oya project, which diverts water for irrigation and drinking purposes.
“As a country that has rendered such yeoman service to Sri Lanka, we should unanimously express our deepest sorrow, condolences, and sympathies on behalf of the Sri Lankan people and all members of Parliament to the Iranian people and their political leaders,” he said. (Newswire)
