Party leaders have decided to hold the second reading debate on the Sri Lanka Electricity Bill next week.
The Committee on Parliamentary Business, chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa has decided to hold the debate on June 6, 2024, from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm.
In November 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal to reform the country’s electricity sector and restructure the Ceylon Electricity Board. The first draft Bill was then revised following concerns from stakeholders.
The government said the new Bill has been introduced with a view of establishing independent and accountable corporate entities, promoting competition, ensuring consumer protection and facilitating the growth of renewable energy. (Newswire)
