An individual who had provided false information to the Police emergency hotline 119 has been granted a five-year suspended prison sentence.
According to media reports, the Hatton Magistrate issued the order after the suspect was produced in court on Monday.
In November 2023, the suspect is reported to have informed the Police emergency hotline that officials of the Ginigathhena Police Station were holding a party with alcohol.
Upon inspection by the Hatton Assistant Superintendent of Police, it was found that the information was false.
An investigation had thereafter, been conducted to trace the suspect, who had pleaded guilty after which he was sentenced.
Apart from the suspended prison term, the court also ordered the suspect to pay Rs. 10,000 to the Police officers who conducted the investigation. (Newswire)
