Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed gratitude to Sri Lankan political leaders who extended their wishes to the Indian premier on the occasion of securing a historic third term in power.

Responding to messages posted on ‘X’ by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Indian Premier said that he looks forward to Rajapaksa’s continued support.

“Thank you for your wishes, my friend @PresRajapaksa. As the India-Sri Lanka partnership charts new frontiers, I look forward to your continued support,” he said.

The Indian Prime Minister also responded to messages from Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka.

On Tuesday, Modi declared victory in the national polls, although early results suggested that Modi’s National Democratic Alliance may need to rely on allies and form a coalition government. (Newswire)
