The prevailing rainy conditions in the southwestern part of the island are expected to intensify over the next few days starting today (08) the Meteorology Department said.
Showers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Fairly heavy showers, exceeding 50 mm, are likely in some areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in the Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.
Several spells of showers are expected in the Northern and North-Central provinces and in the Matale district.
Showers or thundershowers may also occur in a few places in the Uva province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.
Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
The general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Newswire)
