Showers are expected in several areas today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa province and Nuwara Eliya district. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province in the evening or night.
Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be south-westerly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 55-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai, Mannar and from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai, Mannar and from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil can be rough at times. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
The Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard. (Newswire)
