A woman who had financially defrauded the public by promising jobs in the Middle East has been arrested in Gampola by officials from the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE).
According to the SLBFE, it had received 07 complaints and the woman is reported to have defrauded over Rs. 4 million promising jobs in the Middle East, including in Qatar and Dubai.
The SLBFE further said that a case had been filed against the woman on a previous occasion as well.
Upon the arrest of the woman, the SLBFE received another complaint against her, which is being investigated by the Special Investigations Unit of the SLBFE.
The public has been warned of such financial scams, with the SLBFE requesting them to inquire if the said foreign employment agency or agent owns the SLBFE-accredited licence to operate.
The SLBFE further said that the public can inquire about foreign employment agencies or agents via its official website www.slbfe.lk or by contacting the emergency hotline 1989. (Newswire)
