The Bribery Commission has commenced a probe into a complaint on the alleged misuse of official vehicles filed against former Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella.
Issuing a statement, the Bribery Commission said the probe was launched based on a complaint filed by a civilian.
The Bribery Commission states that in May 2023, Rambukwella had been provided with official vehicles during his tenure as the Health Minister, which he had taken along with him following his appointment as the Environment Minister in October 2023.
Following repeated requests by the Health Ministry to return the vehicles, Rambukwella is reported to have returned most, except a Mercedes Benz car and a V8 Landcruiser.
However, Rambukwella is also reported to have not returned the said two vehicles even after resigning from his ministerial portfolios in February this year.
The Bribery Commission says the vehicles had been handed over to the Health Ministry only on 24 May 2024 by Rambukwella’s personal secretary.
Investigations are underway to ascertain if the official vehicles had been misused by former minister Keheliya Rambukwella.
Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella is currently in remand custody over the purported importation of inferior Immune Globulin vaccines during his tenure as the Health Minister. (Newswire)
