MR to meet top Chinese officials during 4-day visit

Former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has left for China on a four-day official visit, during which he is expected to engage in discussions with several Chinese State officials, it was reported. 

According to media reports, Mahinda Rajapaksa embarked on the journey this morning on an invitation extended by Foreign Minister Wang Yi and is set to return on July 01. 

During his visit, Mahinda Rajapaksa is expected to attend the commemorative events marking the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in Beijing, which will be attended by China’s President Xi Jinping, and other leading CPC members

He is scheduled to engage in discussions with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang and Foreign Minister Wang Yi focussing on areas of mutual interest and development projects benefitting Sri Lanka.

Mahinda Rajapaksa is also set to express his gratitude for the assistance given by China and the Exim Bank of China for Sri Lanka’s recent debt restructuring agreement. (Newswire)
