TV station ordered to pay Rs 13.5 million compensation to Journalist

A local television channel has been ordered to pay compensation for unlawfully terminating the services of a journalist who had been employed for 08 years with the institution. 

It was reported that announcing its judgement, the court said the television channel had failed to prove its allegations against the journalist, at the time of the termination of service.

The court further ruled that the allegations levelled against the journalist may have been made by the management arbitrarily without any basis.

Accordingly, the court ordered Asia Broadcasting Corporation (pvt) ltd (ABC networks) to pay a compensation of Rs.13.5 million to journalist Nirosh Maithri. 

Announcing the judgement, the court mentioned that there is an appeal period until August 02 for the respondents. However, until then, the relevant compensation should be deposited to the court.
