3 Drowning Incidents Reported on Saturday, Including 2 Children

Three drowning incidents were reported across the country on Saturday, June 29, including two involving children.

Police reported that a 14-year-old child went missing after apparently drowning in the Iranamadu tank in Mankulam. The incident occurred when five schoolchildren went to bathe in the tank on Saturday afternoon, and one of them reportedly drowned.

A search operation, involving SL Navy divers and local residents, has been launched to locate the missing child.

In a separate incident on Saturday afternoon, a 56-year-old man drowned while sea bathing in the Pelana area of Weligama. His body was recovered on Saturday night after washing ashore on Weligama beach. The victim has been identified as a carpenter from Wedamullawatta, Ramboda.

In another tragic incident, a 5-year-old child drowned while bathing in a swimming pool in the North Batagoda area of Kandana on Saturday evening.

The child, a resident of Dematagoda in Colombo, was initially admitted to the Ja-ela hospital by his father and later transferred to the Ragama Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Kandana Police are conducting further investigations into this incident. (NewsWire)
