Showers are expected in several areas today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Several spells of light showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and Ampara and Batticaloa districts in the evening or night.
Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
Meanwhile, showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be south-westerly in the sea areas around the island. The wind speed will be 30-40 kmph in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Mullaitivu, Kankasanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in these sea areas. The wind speed will be 25-35 kmph in the other sea areas.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Mullaitivu, Kankasanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil can be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be moderate. (Newswire)
