Sri Lanka’s Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa has accused President Ranil Wickremesinghe and his henchmen of attempting to violate the constitution and trying to postpone the Presidential Election.

MP Sajith Premadasa said in the past, the President, his henchmen, and the government have formed an opinion that it is inappropriate to hold a Presidential Election this year.

The Opposition Leader further said that on many occasions, the President and his group had also tried to carry out a political agenda to make people believe that this is not the right time to hold a Presidential Election.

MP Premadasa pointed out that under such circumstances, many more attempts will be made to delay the Presidential Election, which should be legally and constitutionally held soon.

Alleging that all these are conspiracies to violate the Constitution, he said the Constitution clearly states that the Presidential Election must be held between September 17 to October 16.

He further accused that certain groups are working to abolish and disrupt the Constitutional right of the people to choose a new President.

Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa made the remarks while making a special statement in Batticaloa protesting over the moves to obstruct the holding of the Presidential Election. (Newswire)
