Mahabage Police Inspector arrested for accepting Rs. 25,000 bribe

A Police Inspector attached to the Mahabage Police has been arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000.

According to the Bribery Commission, the Police Officer had obtained the bribe on the promise of intervening to settle an issue related to a bounced cheque.

The Police Inspector has been arrested based on a complaint filed by a resident of Palliyawatte in Wattala. 

A complaint on two bounced cheques issued by the Wattala resident had been investigated by the Mahabage Police.

The Police Inspector had offered to make arrangements for the Wattala resident to pay the remainder of the cheque payments in installments and not produce him in court in exchange for a bribe of Rs. 25,000. 

He had been arrested while accepting the bribe at the road leading to the Welisara Economic Centre. (Newswire)
