Over Rs 90 mn in FD accounts of Keheliya’s family frozen

The Bribery Commission has taken measures to seize 16 fixed deposit accounts and 03 life insurance policies belonging to the family members of former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella. 

Issuing a statement, the Bribery Commission said the fixed deposit accounts containing a sum of Rs. 93.125 million belong to the former minister’s wife, three daughters, and one son-in-law. 

On June 27, the Bribery Commission issued a restraining order for seven days over suspicious transactions related to the said accounts. 

The Bribery Commission further said that it also intends to extend the restraining order after reporting facts to the High Court.

Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella is currently in remand custody over the purported importation of inferior Immune Globulin vaccines.

Police investigations have revealed that financial fraud of Rs. 130 million had occurred via the imports of the said substandard medicine, under the tenure of Keheliya Rambukwella as Health Minister. (Newswire)
