The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Union (SLRSMU) has announced the continuation of its trade union action, following a tense standoff with the railway management.
The Government and General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways had issued a stern warning to all Station Masters and Railway Controllers, instructing them to report to duty by 12:00 noon today.
They warned that failure to comply would result in their positions being considered vacated. Despite this ultimatum, none of the striking workers reported for duty.
It is reported that 922 Station Masters had not reported to work today.
This industrial action has significantly disrupted railway services, leaving thousands of passengers stranded and affecting the daily commute of many. (NewsWire)
