One person was reported dead and five others were injured in a clash between two groups at a musical show in the Weeraketiya area last night.
The Police said an argument had ensued between a group of individuals who had attended the musical show and a street vendor, after which a member of the show’s organizing committee had intervened to diffuse tension.
However, the group is said to have assaulted the organizing committee member, after which other organizing committee members assaulted the group in return, with one person using a sharp weapon.
Six persons who sustained injuries in the attack had been admitted to the Weeraketiya Hospital after which one person had succumbed to injuries.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Morayaya in Weeraketya. One suspect has been arrested in connection to the death, while the Weeraketiya Police is conducting investigations. (Newswire/ Image- File pic)
