National People’s Power (NPP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake accused President Ranil Wickremesinghe of concealing corruption complaints made against Wickremesinghe and United National Party members P. Harrison and Ravi Karunanayake.
The NPP leader was responding to a comment made by President Wickremesinghe earlier, that files MP Dissanayake claims to have consisted only of copies, while the original files were in Wickremesinghe’s possession.
“I tell Ranil Wickremesinghe that I have all the information in my files. I’ve also got two files on Ranil Wickremesinghe,” Dissanayake said.
Dissanayake made these comments addressing an NPP gathering in Tsukuba, Japan.
The NPP leader said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe is attempting to create confusion among the public on the Presidential election.
He said that the doubt among society is not about the conduct of an election, but if President Ranil Wickremesinghe will contest the said election.
“Will or won’t Ranil contest? What symbol will he contest under, the elephant or the pohottuwa? Will Mahinda support Ranil? It is Ranil who is actually in doubt today,” Dissanayake said.
“They have now brought a discussion on the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution. The NPP is ready for any election. We guarantee that the Presidential election will be conducted. Ranil will be defeated and he will go home peacefully,” he said.
Asked by a member of the audience if the corrupt will be brought to book under an NPP Government, Dissanayake said that wrongdoers will be punished by law.
A victim who lost her family during the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks and who was also a member of the audience questioned Dissanayake as to how he would bring justice to the victims of the attack.
“There is no need for lengthy investigations. There are a few questions that must be answered to find out who the attackers were. It was evident that intelligence prior to the attack came from a close associate. Finding this person is important. An NPP government will guarantee that this matter will be resolved,” Dissanayake vowed. (Newswire)
