Four persons were reported dead in separate road accidents in the last 24 hours ending at 06.00 am today.
A 65-year-old woman has died after being hit by a bus in the Matale area on Monday. The Police said the woman had gotten out of the bus and had attempted to cross the road by walking in front of the vehicle, at which time the bus had moved forward hitting her. The woman who sustained serious injuries had died while receiving treatment at the Matale Hospital. The driver of the bus has been arrested in connection to the accident.
Meanwhile, a 39-year-old woman has died after a private bus crashed head-on with the three-wheeler she was travelling in, in the Ahungalle area on Monday evening. The Police said the driver of the three-wheeler and the female passenger had been admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital with injuries, during which the woman had died. The driver of the bus has been arrested in connection to the accident.
Also, a 58-year-old man had died after his motorcycle had collided with a dog in the Veyangoda area. The Police said the man had crashed his motorcycle after colliding with a dog and had sustained serious injuries. He had died after being admitted to the Gampaha Hospital.
Furthermore, a 38-year-old man was reported dead after being hit by an unidentified vehicle in the Thirappane area early this morning. The Police said the deceased has been identified as a resident of Anuradhapura. The Thirappane Police have launched investigations to find the vehicle that had fled following the accident. (Newswire)
