According to the government, a discussion took place at a Cabinet meeting in April 2024, on the proposal submitted to establish the ‘National Film Development Commission’ to set up a new institutional framework to enable regulatory-based activities by removing the business activities conducted by the National Film Corporation at present.

The proposal was also made to provide opportunities and facilities to enter the digital platform and thereby move the local cinema to the international level. Thereby, it was decided to discuss the proposal with all the parties in the film industry and to obtain their ideas as well.
