At least five people died in a Surya Airlines plane crash at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Nepal’s Kathmandu on Wednesday morning.
The ill-fated aircraft with 19 passengers, including crew, onboard crashed during takeoff from TIA around 11 am on July 24. It was en route to Pokhara.
Rescue operations are being carried out by police and firefighters.
A report by The Kathmandu Post quoted TIA Spokesperson Subash Jha as saying that the plane accident occurred after the Pokhara-bound flight suffered a runway excursion during takeoff.
Jha also informed that as per preliminary information, five bodies have been recovered from the crash site. The Captain of the plane, MR Shakya, has been rushed to hospital.
A report by Himalayan Times quoted information officer at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Gyanendra Bhul as saying that the plane was carrying a few technical staff.

Meanwhile, a report by Khabarhub quoted sources at TIA saying that Surya Airlines aircraft skidded off the runway during takeoff, resulting in an accident.
