A 24-year-old man has been arrested on allegations of subjecting his 03-year-old son to cruelty in the Karandeniya area in Elpitiya.
The Police said an investigation was launched based on a tip-off received to the 118 Online Emergency Complaint and Public Complaint Management System at the Ministry of Public Security.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect’s 24-year-old wife was employed overseas and that he and his son were residing alone at a house in Anuruddhagama, Karandeniya.
The suspect is reported to have made the child kneel with his hands raised, verbally abused the child for asking for meals, and run over one foot of the child with the back wheel of a bicycle.
Police investigations have also revealed that the man had videoed the incidents and had intended to send it to his wife who is overseas, while it had also been widely circulated on social media.
The Elpitiya Police is conducting investigations into the incident. (Newswire)
