The Colombo Additional Magistrate has instructed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to conduct a probe into the suspects who had illegally acquired Minister Bandula Gunawardena’s credit card and utilized it to purchase goods.

The order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela on Tuesday after the CID had presented facts to the court on a complaint that had been filed by the minister in this regard.

The court has instructed that a probe be launched into the breach of trust, fraud, and misuse of the credit card from a state bank which has a credit limit of Rs. 500,000.

During the hearing, the CID officials had also requested the court to issue an order to the manager of the said bank to provide information on the transactions related to the credit card.

Accordingly, the court granted permission for the CID to obtain the necessary information from the bank. (Newswire)
