The Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine has condemned the recent assassination of Hamas Political Wing Leader Ismail Haniyeh.

Issuing a statement, the Committee said, “The Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine strongly and unequivocally condemned the cowardly assassination of Hamas Political Wing Leader & former PM Ismail Haniyeh.”

The Committee further pointed out that by assassinating Haniyeh, Israel had proven that it was not willing to end its genocide in Gaza and go for a ceasefire.

The Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine went on to say that it stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people and further reiterated its continuous support for their resistance against Israel’s expansionism.

The statement comes after Hamas’s political chief Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Iran’s capital, Tehran earlier this week. Announcing the death, the group that governs Gaza blamed Israel for his death.

In a statement Hamas said Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed after the building where they were staying was struck, adding that Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday. (Newswire)
