Showers are expected in some areas of Sri Lanka today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces as well as the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.
Several spells of showers may occur in the North-western province, while showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere on the island during the evening or night. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely in some places.
Meanwhile, showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo. Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island particularly during the afternoon or night.
Winds will be westerly to south-westerly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
