Parliamentarian Premalal Jayasekera has pledged his support for Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa in the upcoming Presidential Election.
Speaking to reporters, MP Jayasekera, who previously supported President Ranil Wickremesinghe, officially announced his support for MP Namal Rajapaksa.
Following a meeting at the SLPP Office today, MP Premalal Jayasekera told the media that as his party was fielding its own candidate he had decided to extend his support to the party’s Presidential candidate.
“I never changed sides. I only went to a group meeting in Ratnapura. There is no issue with the President. I cannot take a decision by betraying my party. The people from my constituency have also urged me to remain in the party. I have no intention of changing parties,” he added.
MP Jayasekera’s change in decision comes after he attended an event in Ratanpaura alongside Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi last week, where he had pledged support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming elections. (Newswire)
