Nadeen Basik, the son of alleged drug trafficker Shiran Basik, was arrested by officials of the Criminal Investigations Department at the Katunayake Airport last night.
According to the Police, the suspect was wanted for having injured a Police Special Task Force (STF) officer during a special raid in Wellawatte in February this year.
The suspect had fled the area following the incident, after which the Police presented facts to the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court and obtained a detention order.
Based on a tip-off that the suspect was returning to Sri Lanka, CID officials at the Katunayake Airport apprehended the suspect upon his arrival last night.
The suspect is a 22-year-old resident of Dehiwala. The Wellawatte Police is conducting investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, media reports state the suspect has been granted bail after being produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court. (Newswire)
