Presidential polls: EU mission deploys 26 observers across Sri Lanka

The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) for Sri Lanka’s presidential election has deployed 26 long-term observers (LTOs) across all nine provinces.

“The long-term observers are going to every province and they are going to be our eyes and ears. They are going to observe every aspect of the electoral process, to try to have the most complete picture of the complex process of the election” Chief Observer, Nacho Sánchez Amor, a Member of the European Parliament said.

Addressing a media briefing in Colombo on Friday, the observers said that they comprise of a core team of 10 specialists covering the legal, practical, finance, media and social media, security and mobility aspects of the Sri Lankan Presidential election.

Observers have been deployed in multinational teams of two to all nine provinces of Sri Lanka, where they will meet voters, election officials, politicians and civil society not only in cities, as well as in smaller towns and villages, they said. (Newswire)
