Sri Lanka Presidential Election: 700,000 to vote this week

Sri Lanka is gearing up for the first phase of voting in the 2024 Presidential Election, with over 700,000 state sector employees scheduled to cast their postal ballots this week.

The Election Commission has announced that postal voting will take place from September 4 to September 6, 2024.

A total of 712,321 individuals are eligible to Postal vote in this election.

According to the Election Commission, voters can mark their postal votes at District Secretariats and the offices of the Election Commission on 04 September 2024.

From 04-06 September, postal votes can be marked at the Senior Deputy and DIG Offices, Superintendent of Police and Assistant Superintendent of Police Offices, Police Stations, Special Task Force Camps, Special Police Units and Elite Security Divisions, by uniformed and civil staff attached to those offices.

On 05 and 06 September, postal votes can be marked at tri-forces camps and all other state institutions.

Voters who are unable to mark their postal ballots on the allocated dates will be allowed to mark their votes at the District Election Commission Office in their area of service on 11 and 12 September.

Voters have been requested to carry their National Identity Card (NIC), valid driving licence, valid passport, or the temporary NIC issued by the Election Commission in order to identify themselves for voting. (Newswire).
