A complaint has been lodged against an individual who participated in a political rally and threatened supporters of other parties through a video message.

The 47 year old individual, a resident of Kiribathgoda is a former major of the Sri Lanka Army, Police said.

Accordingly an investigation was launched into the complaint lodged with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on September 7 by a member of Parliament, Police said.

The video in question had been referred to the Government Analyst to verify the voice of the individual, while he had also been summoned to the CID to record a statement.

Several organisations had lodged complaints with the CID about the video in question, Police said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the National People’s Power in a media conference said that the video in question had been manipulated, with a fake voice added to the original footage.

The Computer Crime Investigation Division is conducting further investigations. (Newswire)
