National People’s Power (NPP) Executive Committee Member Wasantha Samarasinghe said that an interim government could be formed, reflecting a broad Sri Lankan political identity, once the NPP secures victory in the upcoming presidential elections.
Speaking to the media in Anuradhapura, Samarasinghe outlined that the NPP plans to form this interim government with support from politicians representing the Muslim and Tamil communities of the North and East, as well as the estate sector.
“We want to create a Sri Lankan government. Not a Sinhala government,” Samarasinghe said. “This will be the first government in history, where non-government MPs are also appointed to the Cabinet of Ministers.”
Samarasinghe said that among the 222 members of Parliament, there are good MPs from the North, East, and estate sectors, who will be selected to form an interim government.
“Initially, there will be four members in our Cabinet including comrade Anura. After further discussions, the Cabinet may expand to seven or eight members, representing various parts of the country. “There are no strict requirements for appointing exactly 25 members at once,” he added. (Newswire)
