National People’s Power (NPP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that his party was initially doubtful of receiving support from the North and East of Sri Lanka.

“Initially we were doubtful. We thought we would only get the support of the South,” Dissanayake said, adding this support was not sufficient to achieve the party’s political goals.

“We held rallies in areas like Ninthavur, Samanthurai, Akkaraipattu and Sainthamaruthu, where we received support from the Muslim communities just like this,” he said addressing an NPP rally in Kalutara.

“For the first time, we have a political movement where we can make the same statement in the North, East and the South,” Dissanayake said. (Newswire)
