A recent video circulated on social media showing former US President Donald Trump endorsing National Peoples’ Power (NPP) Presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake is found to be a manipulated video with voice cloning.

According to the Sri Lankan fact-checking website, Factcrescendo, this video purportedly claims that Donald Trump made a statement endorsing NPP candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake ahead of Sri Lanka’s upcoming Presidential Election.

“Sri Lankan friends and family, I’m your next president for USA 2024. I also want you guys to support Anura 2024, become president of Sri Lanka, NPP, Jayawewa; only Anura Kumara can recover Sri Lanka; he is a great honest man with humanity. I’m a huge Anura fan; you better vote for him. NPP Jayawewa,” the false statement by Trump circulated on social media claimed.

However, investigations by Factcrescendo show that the doctored video is one of Donald Trump’s interviews on NBC’s international news website dating back to 2017.

The video using voice cloning had been manipulated to contain content of MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake, which Factcrescendo pointed out could have an impact on public perspective and electoral integrity.

Factcrescendo revealed that its investigations have confirmed that the video of Donald Trump endorsing NPP Presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake is artificially created and that Donald Trump has made no such statement.
